Replacement Rear Bucket Lip — Two Options
The lip (also called the base edge or bucket edge) is the leading edge of your backhoe digging bucket, and the part that takes the wear. Once it is worn back or cracked, the bucket struggles to penetrate and the wear starts eating into the bucket shell itself. Cutting out the old lip and welding in a new one costs a fraction of a new digging bucket.

Bucket Lip, Base Edge or Bucket Edge?
Different workshops use different names for the same part. Whether you call it a JCB rear bucket lip, JCB rear bucket edge, JCB base edge, backhoe bucket lip, backhoe base edge or a digger loader digging bucket edge, it is the flat steel edge welded across the front of the rear (backhoe) digging bucket. Some people also call it the rear bucket cutting edge or blade. In South Africa the machine itself is just as often called a TLB, a backhoe or a digger loader — so if you are looking for a TLB rear bucket lip or a digger loader backhoe bucket lip, this is the part.
When to Replace Your Backhoe Bucket Edge
Replace the rear base edge when it has worn back close to the bucket shell, when the corners have rounded off, or when cracks appear along the edge. Running a digging bucket on a worn lip lets the wear move into the side plates and floor of the bucket, which turns a simple weld-in replacement into a bucket rebuild. If your bucket runs teeth, choose the lip with holes so the teeth can go straight back on.

What is the difference between the lip with holes and without holes?
The lip with holes is pre-drilled for teeth, so your teeth can be fitted once the lip is welded in. The lip without holes is a plain base edge for buckets that run without teeth.
